Does one person's choice of non-violent resistance help?
In the past and most recently a lot of people have been questioning my personal wish to boycott israeli goods.

Firstly I think it’s important to mention that what I do with my money is my choice. This piece isn’t a way for me to sell my ideology to yourselves but more to serve as an Islamic and humanitarian reasoning behind the boycott.

I have heard it one time too many, that I am just another statistic and the fact that my personal boycott will have no effect on the israeli economy. To this I respond that just how we are responsible of earning halal money we are also responsible of spending that money in a halal manner. If I as a person am not funding the further destruction of a country and its people (who happen to be Muslim) that is one less sin on my head and less grievance on theirs. It’s what you call a “win win situation”.

Granted one person is “just another statistic” to some, our boycott isn’t going to shake israel’s economy but who’s to say it can’t be the spark behind the shake? As per usual Allah knows best. There are many examples of “average joe’s” shaking oppressed regimes, Nelson Mandela and all that served at Robben Island during the South African apartheid. Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr. and their choice of defying the oppressive segregation laws in South America.

If you don’t want to go out of your comfort zone, that is your choice. Life isn’t easy and neither is being morally apt but if I have the choice, I choose innocent people’s lives.

Peace.
