A sailor comes nightly to visit his beloved. |
Sea of Love Let us walk my long-lost darling Beside a nighttime navy sea Waters are cold, but air is warm Sand powder-soft as it can be You’ve been gone many years Returned like a wind-swept tide My heart called you from the depths Once again you’re by my side Are you a watery siren’s illusion To make me lose my mind? Did Triton give you life eternal, Could the ocean’s be so kind? Forgive my appearance darling And my dreary gown of black I did not know you were coming But I’m so very glad you’re back. I must kiss you now my darling And embrace as we are now one But my arms go right through you My shattered soul is now undone. You trace my tears with fingers Caressing lines upon my face The moon no longer lingers A red sun now takes it’s place Will you ever be a prisoner Of cruel sea and salt and brine? Will I ever feel your kiss again With lips warm and pressed to mine? You will always come my darling Until once again we can be Husband and wife again together Not separated by death’s cold sea. Goodbye for now my seaward darling Let me be a beacon to you above Someday soon I follow you there Then we’ll rest on the sea of love. author's notes: I love nautical ghost stories. I know there is no such thing as ghosts, but I find it entertaining anyway. There's just something about moonlit tides and creaking ships that gives goosebumps. In the bible in Matthew 14:22-33 , there is an interesting story of superstitions, ghosts, and Jesus' amazing feat, or should I say "feet", of walking on water. The people were highly superstitious and even the disciples still believed in the ghost stories. If you read the passsage in the Bible about this, it said it was the fourth watch in the night, meaning about 3:00am. The time was divided into 12-hour increments, day and night,12 hours sleeping, and twelve resting. Jesus was already up communing with the Father who visits the earth early each morning at about 3:00 am. The Jews believe that whoever is awake and seeking God at that time will recieve a special blessing. So, Jesus was awake and praying to the Father, when he felt in his spirit that the disciples were afraid. He took the shortcut, walking on The Sea of Galilee and almost walked right past the disciples who were rowing fast to get to shore.. They thought he was a ghost because there was a superstition among the people that the ghosts of dead fisherman would haunt the waters at night. Whoever saw the ghost was said to be the next to persish. That's why Jesus said, "It is I , do not be afraid!", because he knew about the superstitions. Jesus had felt in his spirit that they needed him, so he came walking on the water quick, fast, and in a hurry. So Peter said, "Lord if it's you then call me out to you!" Peter thought the boat was going to sink and was cursed by a ghost. So there you have it, a spooky little ghost story right in the Bible. But Jesus saves the day as always. |
