In Memory of Riley Anne Sawyers, Budded on Earth to Bloom in Heaven |
State of Grace How precious you were my darling, To even those you did not meet. Your mom and stepdad didn't love you, As much as strangers in the street. Blonde and gentle with an open heart, You so desperately did crave, The affection from a mother arms, But only pain and hurt they gave. Even at point of death you called her Reaching out your dear little hands As you lay dying from fractures Blood-striped with leather brands “I love you mommy, I love you so” You pleaded and you cried But there came none to save you And on a cold tile floor you died. Set adrift like an immortal baby Moses Floating now painless on Galveston’s Bay Coming to rest upon on hallowed ground Where the fisherman found you that day. You were named, “Baby Grace” A sweet, precious, sneaker-shoed baby. Even in death you were angelic A miniature and gentle young lady. Not in vain is your death little Riley, For blessed by most divine intervention, You’re an angel comforting ones like you, Guiding their little feet home to Heaven.
