A light hearted look at a potentially serious situation |
The book on, 'How To Be A Grandma', eluded me So with pen and paper in hand I will attempt to sweep this land With advice to help us win And spread the widest grin On children near and far Whether we travel by plane or car. The size and shape simply does not matter When it comes to pleasing all Grandparents are made to love Be they great or small. The wrinkles they do try to hide With cream and other stuff Yes Granddads too are seen to try To grow that facial fluff. Though bones grow old and sometimes break The grandparents won't falter They simply don their smily face It's been years since they stood at the altar Their teeth are not their own it's true Their hair is getting thin But when the going gets really tough They're ready to jump in Forgetting things is really hard A funny little habit Dribbling gravy on the chin The hanky is ready to dab it Knitting things as gifts it seems Really doesn't do it The only fat this Grandma uses Is in Christmas Mince, the suet. Some of us work for 40 hours Of every single week So knitting in the corner Creates a fit of pique We earn it and we spend it There isn't much we've saved Superannuation eh? The rules have all been waived So let us hear a round of applause For grandparents world wide Grandchildren could never really know What was going on inside. The Generation Gap is present In many different ways But grandparents can bridge the gap By brightening up our days Their patience and their wisdom No dollar can afford Their endless funny stories We never do get bored And when they finally quit this coil As quit it they surely must We will remember them long after Their bones have turned to dust. |
