Random story I wrote less than a year ago.
(I wrote this about my husband and I before we even started dating. Funny thing is, it's pretty realistic. :)

"What are you doing this weekend, Jake?"
"Oh, probably just doing some reading. Maybe go fishing. It's supposed to rain all weekend. Do you have any big plans?"
"Of course not," Felicity laughed. "I almost never have plans on the weekend."
    "Really?" Jake seemed surprised.
    "Yah, why?"
"You just seem like the kind of person who goes out a lot."
Felicity laughed again. "I would more often if I had any good friends." She shook her head. "I'm just kidding. My friends are alright. Most of them just have a lot going on in their lives. I'm rambling, aren't I?"
Jake smiled; a rare thing for Felicity to see.
"Why are you always so serious?" she had wanted to ask him that for the longest time and almost felt relieved that she finally had.
"I've always been quiet. The service changed me a lot too."
"Do you ever fumble, EVER, when you talk? You've always got a concise answer, like you've got it planned out ahead of time. Like you know what someone is getting ready to ask before THEY even ask it!"
    Jake actually laughed a little.
"Oh, so you do have a sense of humor." Felicity grinned.
"Why are you always giving me such a hard time?"
"Don't take this the wrong way, but I can't stand serious people. It drives me nuts that some people seem so uptight. I do it to get a rise out of you."
"You're one to talk about people being so uptight."
Felicity's mouth dropped open. Jake laughed.
"I still laugh and joke around, at least!"
"Sorry. I couldn't resist the opportunity to get you back."
"Oh, I see how it is." Felicity nudged him in the elbow.
"Are you doing anything after work?" Jake asked out of nowhere.
    Felicity was speechless for once.
"Cat got your tongue?" Jake raised an eyebrow.
"Shut up," her face began to redden. "For awhile there I was beginning to think you might be a robot."
    "Very funny."
"Hello. My name is Jake. I'm from the planet Nebutron," Felicity spoke in a robotic tone.
Jake smiled. "I'm serious. Why don't you, uh, come over if you, uh, want if you're not busy."
"Oh my God! He does stutter!" she paused a moment. "I'm sorry. I'm not making this any easier, am I?"
    "No."
"I really am sorry. Do you forgive me?" she gave him a goofy look.
"Only if you agree to come over."
    "You have yourself a deal!"
"Awesome. You want to watch a movie or something? I rented a really good one the other day."
"Yah. That sounds good. You won't mind waiting for me after work so I can follow you, do you? I'm one of the only ones who stays after to make sure everything is how it should be," Felicity sighed and rolled her eyes.
"That's okay. I do the same thing every night. We'll probably end up getting done at the same time anyway."
"Okay," Felicity laughed. "I'll try to hurry."
"Don't worry about it," Jake insisted. "No hurry," he smiled and got up to go back inside.

Felicity frantically tried to get her work area cleaned up. The bell had already rang two minutes ago and the other woman who normally helped her went home early.
"Do you need any help?" the voice behind her made her jump. Felicity spun around.
"You scared the absolute crap out of me!"
"Sorry," Jake smiled. "I didn't mean to startle you."
"That's okay," she grabbed her chest and pretended like she was having a heart attack. "You can pay for my hospital bills. Um, see that plastic bag full of springs over there," Felicity pointed. "I'm almost done. I swear."
"It's okay, Felicity, really," Jake patted her shoulder as he walked past.
She completely forgot what she was doing and just stared for a minute.
"Are you okay?" Jake looked concerned.
Felicity shook her head to clear her thoughts.
"Yah," she smiled. "I'm fine. I think I'm finally done. You didn't have to come help me, you know?"
"I know, but I know how it is to not have help. It's irritating."
"Go home!" Grace, one of her supervisors, called suddenly.
"I'm going, I'm going! Just trying to do everybody's work for them, as usual! Have a good weekend."
Grace happened to look over and see Jake standing with Felicity. She opened her mouth in a gesture of "What?! and pointed. "You too, babe," she said in an implying tone. Felicity shook her head and couldn't help but smile. "You too, Jake!"
    "Thanks, Grace. You too."

"So what movie is it we're watching?" Felicity asked once they were inside Jake's apartment.
"We don't have to watch that one. I just thought it was good. It's pretty serious, though. You probably wouldn't like it anyway," Jake smiled.
"Ha ha," Felicity replied sarcastically. "Seriously, what is it?"
"It's the one that just came out about the guy who goes to fight in the war. When he gets home he thinks his time is up, but he gets stoplossed."
"Sounds pretty good. Put it in."
"Are you sure? You're not just enlightening me are you?"
    "Put it in!" Felicity laughed.
"Alright, alright," Jake put his hands up in surrender and got up to put the movie in.
"You've got a really nice place, Jake."
    "Thank you."
Just then Felicity's cell phone rang. "Grace" appeared in her caller ID. She rolled her eyes and got up.
"Do you mind if I get this?"
"No, go ahead. I'll cue this up."
"Thank you," she whispered as she opened her phone. "Hello, Grace."
"Whatcha doin'?" she said in her mischievous voice.
"Well, I was getting ready to watch a movie before you so rudely interrupted," Felicity joked.
    "With who?"
"Do I have to be with someone to watch a movie?"
    "Felicity?"
"Who do you think I'm with?!"
"Since when did you two...?" Grace trailed off.
"He just asked me over earlier tonight at work. Is that okay?" she whispered.
"I'm just giving you a hard time. You're no fun." Felicity could tell Grace was pouting on the other end of the phone.
"I'll leave you alone. You be nice to him, though. He's a good guy."
"I know. I will. I'll call you tomorrow if anything exciting happens."

Felicity walked back into the living room shaking her head and grinning.
"I'm going to kill her Monday."
    "Who?"
"That was Grace being a nosy ass."
    "Oh," Jake smiled.
"Don't worry. She won't say anything."
"Oh, I don't care. We're not on company time and we're doing nothing wrong."
"I know. I was just saying," Felicity sat back against the love seat.

They weren't even halfway through the movie when Felicity started yawning.
    "Are you bored?" Jake whispered.
"No, I'm just really worn out physically. I worked my ass off this week," she yawned again.
"I'm not trying to pressure you into anything, so I don't want you to get the wrong idea, but you can lean against me if you want."
Felicity was in awe again, but was so tired it didn't phase her as much. She leaned in to Jake's side and rested her head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arm around her.
Jake, too, was surprised by his own behavior, but even more surprised by Felicity's. It had been a long time since he had felt a woman close and allowed himself to relax more and enjoy it.
Felicity shocked herself, but there was something about Jake that made her feel safe.

A few minutes later a particularly intense part of the movie was playing when Felicity noticed Jake was breathing more heavily and quickly than he was before. She was shocked to see tears in his eyes when she looked up.
"Are you okay?" Felicity was deeply concerned because she could only imagine what his past experience in the Army was like and what effect this movie could be having on him.
"Just some bad memories," Jake whispered. "Will you excuse me?"
Felicity moved out of the way and Jake excused himself. A few minutes passed and she wasn't sure what to do. She knew most men didn't like to be seen crying, and Felicity understood that, but she just wouldn't feel right not checking on him.
She thought he had gone in the kitchen, but there was no sign off him. She saw a light from the bathroom in the hallway. Felicity slowly approached the open door.
    "Jake?" she called softly.
Jake was curled up in a ball holding his knees tight and rocking back and forth on the bathroom floor, bawling his eyes out. Felicity kneeled down on the floor next to him and wrapped her arms around him and said nothing, let him cry. Jake reached up and held on tight to her arms as he continued rocking. Felicity ran her fingers through his hair.
"It's okay now," she whispered in his ear. "I don't know what's going through your head, but everything's okay now."
Jake shook his head. "It was so bad over there. I try not to think about the bad things, but they just haunt me sometimes," he cried.
"I'm sorry, Jake. Really. I can't even begin to imagine what you had to go through. But I'm not leaving until you calm down."
"Thank you so much, Felicity. I feel bad for ruining your night, though."
"You didn't ruin anything. I refuse to let you feel bad about this."
Jake was finally starting to calm down and got up. "If you want to go home now, I'll understand."
Felicity stood up in front of him and looked Jake in the eyes. "If you want some time alone, I understand, but I wouldn't mind staying longer if you want me too."
"I would like that," he smiled. "You're different. That probably would have scared a lot of women off."
"Well," Felicity shrugged, "I'm a lot different than most girls...In a good way, I hope." Both of them laughed.
"I guess I will have to find out," Jake smiled again. "Let's go back in the living room."
Jake must have seen Felicity's mouth drop because she caught him smiling even bigger as they walked out of the bathroom.
The two sat down next to each other, Felicity still clearly in awe of Jake's sudden "coming out" behavior.
"Don't act so surprised," Jake smiled. "I'm a lot more interesting and talkative once you get to know me."
"Evidently! I like it," she smiled back. "I was hoping you would be because otherwise we would NOT get along."
    "Oh really?"
"Yah. I tried the whole shy thing with one of my boyfriends in high school and it just wasn't working for me. I like guys who take more initiative than me."
"Sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what you want out of a man," Jake looked almost disheartened as he spoke.
    "What's wrong?" Felicity asked.
"Nothing," he shook his head. You could feel the awkwardness thick in the air.
"Do you like card games?" Jake questioned.
"Like what? I don't know very many, but I love playing poker."
"Really? Poker is my favorite too. I'll go dig my cards out." Jake stopped in the kitchen entrance.
"Maybe if you were actually interested in that movie, you can take it home and finish watching it," he looked down, clearly still embarrassed by his episode.
"I'd like that. I promise I'll return it on time."
Jake disappeared into the kitchen as Felicity listened to him shuffling through drawers.
"Surprised I found them," Jake returned and laid the cards on the coffee table. "Do you mind if I turn some music on?"
    "No. By all means."
Jake went to the stereo in his giant entertainment center and opened the CD drive. It was empty.
"I'll be right back," he disappeared into the back of the house again. He returned a minute later and placed a disc in the drive. He closed it and turned to Felicity.
"Okay, so, I kind of have weird musical tastes. At least I'm assuming that's what you'll think. But this CD seems kind of appropriate right now. I don't know why, but if you don't like it, tell me."
"As long as it's not country or rap, I think we'll be okay." Felicity smiled. Jake pushed the play button and sat across from Felicity on the floor. The music started playing as Jake shuffled the deck of cards.
    "Moby?" Felicity seemed surprised.
"Yah. You've heard him before?" Jake was just as surprised.
"Are you kidding? I mean, I've never listened to any of his CD's all the way through, but I know several of his songs. Very mellow, for the most part."
    Jake dealt their hands.
"I'm going to sound like the biggest nerd ever, but have you ever watched The X-Files?" Felicity giggled.
"Are you kidding me?! I used to watch it every week." Jake smiled.
"Hmm. More in common than you thought?" she questioned. "Anyways, did you know at least two of his songs have been on different X-Files episodes?"
"Yah. One of them is on here, actually."
    "Oh. Which one?"
"It's a surprise. You'll have to wait." Jake's eyes lit up.
"Alright. Fair enough. I'll have you know that I hate surprises, though, and you WILL pay." Felicity laughed.
"If you say so," Jake tried to get a rise out of her.
"I want two," she laid her cards down on the table and have Jake an evil look for his comment.
"Dealer takes two also," he handed Felicity and himself two cards each. They looked at their cards in silence for a second.
"What do you have?" Jake smiled.
Felicity folded her cards down on the table. "Full house! Read 'em and weep! Top that, bitch!" she joked.
Jake couldn't help but grin and shake his head, though he knew he was defeated. "Two of a kind," he folded.
"Agh! I told you I would make you pay," Felicity nudged his shoulder. She gathered the cards and shuffled. Both of them looked towards the ceiling as rain started falling heavily on the roof.
"Oh shit! I think I left my windows cracked!" Felicity jumped up, grabbed her keys out of her purse, and ran outside. By the time she got back inside she was drenched from head to toe, hair dripping wet.
"Oh my God. Is it raining that hard?" Jake tried not to laugh.
"No. I decided to find your hose and hose myself down while I was out there," Felicity replied sarcastically.
    Jake bit his lip.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be ugly."
"That's okay. Do you want to borrow some clothes so you don't catch a cold? I'll get you a towel too," Jake got up and headed to the kitchen.
    "It's alright. I'll be fine..."
"I insist," Jake cut her off. "Come on," he motioned.
Felicity followed him to the entrance of his bedroom. She watched him as he dug through his drawers.
"Here." He handed her a pair of sweatpants and baggy t-shirt. Jake walked past her and got a clean towel from the hallway closet.
"You can...change wherever," he seemed flustered and quickly walked back in the living room.
Felicity smiled to herself and went back to his bedroom to change. She couldn't figure out why, but even his awkwardness was cute.
"Alright. Time to beat your ass," she entered the living room.
    Jake jumped a little.
    "Did I startle you?"
    "No...Yah, a little. I was just thinking."
"Well whatever you're thinking about, don't think too hard," she laughed.
"Um, do you like wine?" Jake asked out of nowhere.
    "If it's red."
"You might be in luck," he disappeared for what seemed to be the 50th time that night.
He returned with two glasses of red wine.
"Would you sit still for more than five minutes?! You're making me nervous!"
Jake downed his glass of wine instantly and held up a finger. "Right after this," he came back with the whole bottle and sat it near the edge of the table.
Felicity just stared at him. "Are you okay, Jake?"
"Yes, I'm fine. I don't know why, but I'm just now getting really nervous for some reason."
"Dude, I am like the most laid back person you'll ever meet...Okay, maybe not, but you have NO reason to be nervous around me. Honest." She looked him right in the eyes.
Jake sighed and looked down at his hands.
"Here's the thing. I like you a lot, Felicity. I know we don't know each other very well, but there's just something about you." He paused. "There. I said it...Why are you smiling?"
"Because I was pretty much thinking the same thing earlier. Like, when I was leaning against you earlier. I wouldn't normally do that, but you make me feel safe. Like I could put my complete trust in you and not give it a second though. There. I said it!"
Jake leaned over and hugged Felicity, which kind of took her aback at first, but she hugged him back with the same intensity. Neither one of them let go until the song changed. Felicity leaned back.
"I love this song," she whispered.
"Me too. It's my favorite Moby song," Jake looked deeply into her eyes.
In an instant, Felicity finally had the cliche of her life passing before her eyes for the first time in her life: her childhood, teenage years, her present life, marriage, having kids, and growing old. And almost all of them included Jake in the picture.
They both leaned in at the same time, wrapped their arms around each other and kissed passionately.
Felicity could feel her heartbeat quicken as the rain outside beat harder on the roof.
Jake wondered as to whether Felicity had the same thoughts he had just had. She pondered the same thing. It could wait until later, she thought. Why ruin a beautiful moment with words?
He leaned into her and laid her back against the sofa, and she obliged as they continued kissing. The body heat emanating from Jake warmed her chilled bones up from the cold rain that had seemed to seep into her insides. Felicity wanted more as she wrapped her legs around his waist. She could feel his arms around the back of her still raising her up slowly, carefully, like she might break at any sudden movement.
Jake lowered his arms and placed them under Felicity's buttocks, picking her up slowly as she wrapped her arms around his neck. They paused a long second again as he held her in front of the love seat, looking into each others souls, not speaking a single word. There was no need.
He carried her into his bedroom, kissing her intermittently along the way. Jake gently laid her down on his bed, watching her chest rise heavily in time with his own.
Jake lifted his shirt over his head and threw it across the room. He undressed Felicity and couldn't help but stare at her.
    "What's wrong?" she breathed heavily.
"You're beautiful," Jake whispered as he leaned over her and ran his fingers through her long, flowing hair spilling around her face. The moonlight shining through the blinds illuminated her angelic face. Jake pressed his body gently against Felicity's and kissed her until he thought he would suffocate.

Felicity let tears fall down her cheeks with Jake snuggled against her back and arm draped over her side, holding her close. They were still naked and trying to fight off the chills with body heat and blankets, even though they both knew neither would help with the kind of chills they had.
Jake had tears rolling from his eyes as well and knew Felicity was feeling the same way. He didn't think it was the appropriate time to say anything. The two laid there in silence until Felicity spoke up at last.
She couldn't believe what was happening. She had only believed these kinds of things happened in movies. Love this real never happened in real life, if so, rarely. Before tonight, she almost had herself convinced that soul mates didn't even really exist. But life had suddenly found a way of proving her otherwise.
Felicity had never made love that intense in her life and there was no doubt in her mind that she never would with any other man. She finally rolled over to face Jake, a few tears still making their way down her glistening cheeks.
Jake looked deep inside of her eyes and wiped the tears from her cheeks.
    "Are you alright?"
"Yah." Felicity started crying harder and buried her face in his chest. Jake stroked her hair. "What's wrong?"
She shook her head without looking up. "Nothing. That's the thing," Felicity muffled against his chest. "I've never felt this, free, in my life. I've never felt this happy," she finally looked at Jake. "Who's being a baby now?" she tried to joke.
"Come here," he sat up and opened his arms out to her.
"I just feel weird talking about it out loud. I think you're thinking the same thing I am, but I don't want to say anything and sound like a complete whack job."
"And I thought I was paranoid. We are meant for each other."
Felicity's neck snapped so quickly Jake thought she might break it. She stared at him.
"Just tell me what you're thinking so I won't worry about it," she pleaded.
"But you already know," Jake's self-consciousness was quickly returning.
"I want to HEAR it, though. Please?"
Jake sighed and closed his eyes.
"Felicity, I don't even really know you, but I do. There's something special about you and something in the universe is making me feel like we were meant to be together. If I let you go, I'll never be happy or find anyone else like you." He had tears welling up in his eyes again, but could see Felicity's misting up too. "To be fair, you should have to tell me what you're thinking too," Jake choked, only half believing she would.
"Okay," she composed herself enough to speak. "I've never felt this close to anyone in my entire life, and like you said, we barely know each other. I feel like some force got us together for a reason. It's like we can read each others mind." Felicity took a deep breath. "I think you're the only person I was meant to be with." She paused for a second. "Everyone is going to think we're crazy, you know?"
Jake finally smiled. "I don't care."
"That's good." Felicity smiled back. "What time is it?"
He looked at his alarm clock on the night table next to him. "5:30. Do you want to stay here tonight?"
For some reason, Felicity was kind of shocked. "Yah. I'd like that."

Felicity woke up to Jake getting out of bed in the morning.
"Good morning, afternoon, whatever it is," she spoke softly.
    Jake spun around quickly.
    "Did I wake you up?"
"It's okay. I'm sure I need to get up anyway." She suddenly realized she was still naked. "I don't even remember falling asleep," she rubbed her eyes. "Holy crap! It's two o'clock!?"
"Did you have something you needed to do? I'm sorry."
"No, just surprised I slept that long without waking up at all."
"Do you not sleep very well?"
    "Ugh. You have no idea."
"Well I'm glad you got some sleep then," Jake smiled. "I'm going to take a shower real quick."
Felicity laid back down and thought about last night. Her thoughts were interrupted by Jake.
"I think your phone's ringing," he popped his head around the corner.
"Okay. Thanks." Felicity jumped out of bed without putting any clothes on and ran to the living room.
"What part of 'I'll call YOU if anything exciting happens' do you not understand?" Felicity greeted Grace.
"Well, hello to you too! What are you doing?"
"Honestly? I'm currently standing naked in Jake's living room talking to you."
    "What?! You're kidding!"
"Nope. It's not exactly like what it sounds, though."
    "What happened?" Grace was intrigued.
"I know you're going to kill me, but now's not really a good time. Can I call you back later?"
"No, but you can tell me now."
    "Grace!"
"Alright. I'm just kidding! Call me."
    "Okay. Bye."
Felicity tossed her phone back into her purse and walked to the bathroom. She could hear the water still running and opened the door as quietly as she could. She snuck over to the shower and pulled the curtain back quickly. Jake about had a heart attack.
"Oh my God!" he bent over and breathed heavily. "At least give me some warning next time!"
"Okay, but consider us even now," Felicity smiled.
