What Susan Boyle might have to say to her cat, Pebbles
Pebbles, Please Understand

Your eyes light up at the sound of my voice,
Rubbing my ankles and purring with joy.
I open some kippers; meow and rejoice!
Alone with each other in front of the fire.

For you, life together is nothing but bliss.
Your eyes light up at the sound of my voice.
You needn't imagine that longed-for first kiss
For me, I have dreams; there are bridges to cross.

The river before me, at last make a choice,
Break free and cross over and seize my big chance.
Your eyes light up at the sound of my voice,
But my tremulous words are for someone afar.

I peek out at you, a thousand hostile eyes
You smirk and jab elbows as I walk on stage
But as I cross that bridge, you gasp with surprise;
Your eyes light up at the sound of my voice.

Form: Quatern (variant)

Explanation of form:

A Quatern is a sixteen line French form composed of four quatrains. It has a refrain that is in a different place in each quatrain. The first line of stanza one is the second line of stanza two, third line of stanza three, and fourth line of stanza four. A quatern usually has eight syllables per line, without a set rhyme scheme, but I chose to use longer lines and an a/b/a/c rhyme pattern.
