Poem of the entity of Death
The rain fell gently on the window
         And in she silently crept
There to take another failing life
         While the person slept.

She walked the dark halls patiently
Her work soon to be done
A soul would be within her grasp
And then she could move on.

But as Death strolled through the doors
         Towards her destination
She crossed the path of a man
         That stirred a strange sensation.

She soon realized what it was
That she felt deep down inside
And that was love for this man
With whom she had locked eyes.

Their eyes entrapped, and neither spoke
An eternity seemed to shoot by
And as images flowed through their heads
They felt like they could fly.

Thoughts of picnics in the park
And long walks on the beach
Of sunsets in each other’s arms
         Always within reach.

She spoke to him of a simple task
         To finish before they go
And then together they would be
         Forever, but he said no.

He asked the task of which she spoke
         And she revealed to him
That an infant’s life she was to take
         Then their future could begin.

He begged her not to do her work
         To let the child be
But a life she was required to take
So he said “please take me.”

She pleaded with him to reconsider
         And together they would live
Forever in her world of death
         And immortality she would give.

He declined her most gracious offer
         And so, in his grace
He gave his life for a stranger’s child
As tears ran down Death’s face.

Even now, in quiet rooms
         As Death does draw near
You can hear her always sadly weeping
         And feel her falling tears.
