As the fading sun paints dusk's silhouettes
using varied hues of darkness's kin,
I smile and end each day with no regrets.

Each cycle captures one of life's vignettes,
inscribing the story, lines upon skin,
as the fading sun paints dusk's silhouettes.

Each crease an archive of joys and upsets
that illustrate memories held within.

Shadowed youth calls, remembered soubrettes,
the warmth of love's touch, all bring forth a grin
as the fading sun paints dusk's silhouettes.

Life is a series of payments and debts.
The best you can do is break even.

As images fade, contentment besets.
Each day's a treasure; soon new will begin.

An entry for the April round of "Poetic Traditions Poetry Contest " 
Form: Villanelle
The Villanelle is a great form for those who like to tie repetition in with rhyme. The lower case letters rhyme with ALL instances of that letter (capital or not), and the capital/number lines are refrains and should be repeated exactly as they appear in the first stanza. The stanzas are laid out like this forming 5 tercets and a final quatrain:
A1 b A2, a b A1, a b A2 , a b A1, a b A2, a b A1 A2

soubrette – a young flirtatious woman You try finding rhymes for silhouette!
