Lend A Hand

Transcend disparities and lend a hand
Just one obliging spirit can install
Among us, peace will spread throughout the land

The farmer’s day is hard to long withstand
Although more work to do before nightfall,
Transcend disparities and lend a hand

Let daylight slip away so not to strand
A stranger needing help who comes to call
Among us, peace will spread throughout the land

A neighbor gone astray is never planned
O kindly point the way and pass the ball

Another line of work, some other band
Together manned compassion can befall
Among us, peace will spread throughout the land

Look past the skin and see the soul is grand
This life’s a journey, arduous for all
Transcend disparities and lend a hand

This poem was written according to the Villanelle Form. The Villanelle is a great form for those who line to tie repetition in with rhyme. The lower case letters rhyme with ALL instances of that letter (capital or not), and the capital/number lines are refrains and should be repeated exactly as they appear in the first stanza. The stanzas are laid out like this:

a b A1
a b A2
a b A1
a b A2
a b A1 A2

Note that the ending stanza is a quatrain whereas the rest of them are tercets. (Hint: try picking common rhymes that a lot of words will rhyme with so you don't get stuck somewhere in the middle!)
