This is a piece I wrote while going through my divorce.
Farewell

I swallowed the bold scent of cognac

and the hollowed sounds of organs playing

through the darkened corridores

of your basement cathedral

where you lay with your crown of thornes

drowning in holy water.

I knelt beside you there

wiped your brow,

and gently set aside your crown.

I watched you for a long while

as you drifted further and further

away, pale faced, the blood of your

forehead running down, tinting the water

in which you lay.

I sang you a song,

recited to you a poem of love,

kissed your lips,

and bid thee farewell.
