Two poems I wrote
Goodnight

Psalm 90:4-5 “For you, a thousand years are as a passing day,
as brief as a few night hours.. You sweep people away like dreams that disappear”

As unaware as I am of the bugs
    under the Earth
    beneath my feet,
I had no idea I was kissing you goodnight.

We were human alarm clocks.
    Singing to you,
    bribing you.
You were too busy sleepliving.

In a day and a lifetime
    24 hours,
    24 years.
Your heart grew a thousand times too big.

Dreaming as you traveled from one bed to another.
    From sterile metal
    to wood and plush.
But who can sleep comfortably in a suit?

I am glad to have spent a thousand years with you,
before you went to sleep.

Truths for Me, Songs for You

An aerial view of cars at night
driving down the highway
are like glistening drops of blood
dripping down a piece of wood.

The spotlights behind you
make your hair white on the ends
they stare from darkness
like the glowing eyes of a stray cat.

I can see your uvula when you sing.
Standing on the edge of the pool,
your silhouette on the bottom
makes it impossible not to push you in.

Green bottles in the bathroom sink.
Green eyes fall asleep to the TV at night,
watch for the next approaching bus,
long to free the lobsters at the store.

You don’t have to eat the microphone
so it can be closer to your heart.
