April Fool's Joke-New Character for VV?

Author's note:  This is not something you need to rate or review - just a fun piece I included (I'm telling you this NOW, b/c someone read it and rated it kinda low!!).  A girlfriend asked me at our last book club meeting (on 3/31) to write an email describing a new character for my book - that strangely resembles her husband - and send it around to people in the neighborhood who have shown an interest in my book.

They play jokes on each other every year and she was hoping to get him good this year by dragging someone else into the mix (which is something they have done before, just not so publicly!).  I wrote it quick, off the cuff and yes, it is not very good - but to be a fly on the wall when he was reading it would have been priceless!



Hi Everyone,

Most of you know I'm writing a book.  Not all of you will be interested in reading this genre and that is okay - I realize it won't appeal to everyone.  I'm writing to get your honest opinion.  So far, I have created characters with the following heritage: German, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Middle Eastern, Australian and Inuit.

I'd like to introduce you to the newest addition to Vampire Vacation and tell me if you think I can create an interest in him, here is a brief description:

Drew stands a little less in height than the average man, but he makes up for it in the sheer size of his personality.  A relaxed laid back exterior masks the sharp mind and keen intellect contained in his compact wiry frame.  His piercing chocolate gaze doesn't miss a detail of his surroundings.  A quick smile and ready laugh covers a dark passion that lurks beneath the facade.

Born in America, but of Jewish descent, his smooth head reflects his inner confidence.  A solid powerful stance appears at odds with his stealthy grace and agility. This is a man that can enter a room, analyze the occupants, befriend them and keep his wits about him at the same time.  His training has made him an operative without compare and he is able to live with his neighbors none the wiser.  Drew makes a worthy ally and a deadly enemy.

Okay guys - that's all I've written so far.  I'm thinking of introducing him in as a security guy at the hotel - he could go in under the radar and find the killer.  Thoughts?  Appreciate any feedback you'd be willing to share.

End note:  Her husband called her while away on business (after reading my email) and said:

"Don't you think her character reminds you of someone?"

She replied "No, didn't ring any bells with me." 

He continues with "Huh, are you sure?"

"What, do you think maybe it sounds like an April Fools joke?"

"Damn,are you serious?  That was a good one."

Awesome!  I was so glad to be a part of the day long gag - he was getting emails from 'reply to all' from everyone in the neighborhood on my email list raving about my 'new character' (they were all in on the joke)!
