Another version of the poem about growing up in a dysfunctional family.
Dysfunctional 2

Not even all the pillows on my bed
can muffle the shouting outside my room.

I hear reproaches and insults,
angry words and weeping.
They tell me to pretend it never happens.
They say it should not be spoken of
outside the home
because that would be shameful.

I want to go out there
and shout at them
to stop...

but they'd only hurt me
if I spoke up.

I want to get out of here
I want to be someplace else
not trapped in these four walls
with nothing surrounding them
but bitterness.

I want to bang my head against the wall.
