His mere presence is enough to evoke fear among inmates and tense caution in staff. When Anya stumbles under his watchful eye during roll call, the former Russian’s fate seems sealed.

This is no sugar-coated tale. It’s a harrowing story of humanity and the loss there-of. Anya and Enric learn that the power of compassion is a devastating force. It can mend some people while tearing others apart. For once you discover there are two sides to every coin, every story, every war … life can no longer be defined in black and white, but in a series of muted grays.
