Shadowed Footsteps

SHADOWED FOOTSTEPS

I hear footsteps following
As I try to run away
Darkness at my fingertips
The past right behind me.

Consumed with pain and hurt
Drowned in my sorrow
I head toward the light
On my way to relief.

A few more steps ahead
The light I begin to  reach
I turn my head to the past
Then learning I wished I hadn’t.

Arms grab and pull me
I reach out to the light
As I get pulled behind
Again I fall away.

Past and Darkness creeps
Pulling me down
Confusion reaches my mind
Toward the decision at hand.

A life of light or darkness
Which shall I choose
Both seem right
But which will fit?

Past and future seem alike
Never letting me go
Confusion and Chaos seem again
To darken my door.

Then once more
Stuck in a hole of a tunnel
I try to run away
The past again after me.
