Another free verse strange thing in my head
Sitting in on a cold rock, chilled to the bone
It was last nights' cool air and the cold rock
That slowed me to an unbearable pace
Patiently waiting for the sun to radiate its warmth into me
That I might move again, slowly at first
The joy of being cold blooded

Nothing to look forward to today
The basics, hopefully another kill
That I might eat again and sustain my life
I am king predator of all of the islands of Indonesia,
I am massive, I am strong, I am feared,
I am a force to be reckoned with

We Komodos' do not have feelings
We only cause the feelings of terror and fear in others
That is the basis of our power, our gift
That and a sinuous body almost 9 feet long
150 pounds of sheer muscle and bite
Efficient killers with no conscience

Carrion, the love of things dead and dying
Baked in nature's oven, ripened by the sun
Easier to rip and shred with my razor like teeth
Easier to find with my tongue that is my olfactory sensor
The odor of carrion is heavy and lies close to the ground
So much the better for a short legged fella like me

My bite is full of virulent bacteria that may not kill instantly
I'm a very patient fellow never in a hurry to do anything
It's the lifestyle of the islands where I roam
I can wait a week as you slowly die from the infections
The sweet smell of gangrene emanating from your wounds wafting my way
Is to me as honey is to the bee, inviting, strong and most worthy of the wait

Life is not easy for a Komodo Dragon, stealth and patience are the keys
Couple that with sheer savage power and you understand me well
To understand me is to fear me and that is power in its' rawest form
I have tasted your flesh before and I like it, it is sweet and marbled with fat
A rarity within the sparse diet of twelve meals a year that sustain me

You might place me in a zoo and watch me from afar for it is safe to do so
Given a chance at domestication and you would only last a moment
You are just a meal to me, part of nature's food chain
I am ambivalent towards you, you are nothing but a mess of blubbering flesh
Ah but you are so tasty and sweet, something to savor when given the chance

I am certainly not the type of fella that you would invite over for dinner and drinks
