My light

I’ve lost it…

The spark…
The joy…
The spirit…
The light

That wouldn’t stop shining on me
Keeping the darkness from enshrouding
Protecting me from the nightmares
Driving all the demons away

That beacon that blazed through the wilderness of my soul
And wrapped itself around my heart in a cloak of protection
So that I didn’t feel so alone
So scared
So empty

That knowledge that no matter what happened to me
No matter who broke my heart
Or which crushing defeat I suffered
Despite every obstacle that life threw in my path
I had an advantage

Because in the midst of the darkest night
Right around the corner from that empty room
Buried underneath the powdery ashes
It laid dormant

Just waiting to ignite

And now I sit in the shadows
Waiting for my light to shine…
Knowing that it won’t

Because you were my light…
My spark…
My spirit…
My joy….

And your light has been extinguished
