Moonlight and his 2nd, Starlit talk about the threat of the coming battle
It was nightfall and the camp was still. The stars were shining down on the forest, and Starlit was sitting, looking up at them, lost in thought.
‘You look thoughtful.’ murmured Moonlight, Starlit’s mentor.
Disturbed, Starlit blinked and turned her gaze from the Ancient Warriors.
‘I was just thinking of yesterday’s battle.’ she admitted.
Moonlight sighed, and sat down beside her. He had hoped the rest of the pack would be content to leave the worrying to him and the Alphas. ‘You think the Monsters will lead another attack?’
‘Yes.’ Starlit looked down, embarrassed to be sharing her thoughts with the great beta. Moonlight usually would never share his thoughts with anyone but the Alphas. He was a very silent wolf and used few words, unless it was important.
Starlit looked up again, serious. ‘They always return. They will this time too. They will be angry because of the number of them we killed yesterday. And every time they attack, they push us further and further back. They will probably come tomorrow. You know how swift they are at organizing an attack.
‘Almost as swift as us.’ Moonlight nodded his face grim. ‘You are thinking it through well, Starlit. I am proud to be you’re mentor. One day you will be a strong and clever beta to the pack. Maybe even a leader.’ Moonlight had been looking up at the Great Warrior as he said this. Starlit, down at the ground embarrassed but pleased at her mentors praise.
She looked at him, her eyes narrowed. ‘What will we do if they take the camp?’ She asked quietly, before she too returned her gaze on the Ancient Warriors.
‘I don’t know.’ Moonlight whispered. Both wolves looked at each other, as they realised the danger they would be in if that happened. The cubs would die without a safe den, and they had only this one camp. If the Monsters won the coming battle, the pack would be forced to flee their territory… and enter an enemy packs territory.
Together, the two wolves once again, gazed up at the stars, and hoped the Ancient Warriors would protect them and help them in the coming battle.
