Poem of a Dying Soldier in Vietnam
Another night of dwelling underneath the moonlight.

A once respected man is now a mere shadow of his former self.

The explosions and gunfire still going off in his mind.

As the soldier lies there.

Lies there almost lifeless on the floor.

An image of the past hits him in the head.

He watches again as his team and friends get mown down by blazing gunfire.

One time is bad enough.

Another time is hell.

The same vision takes his mind over and over again.

He soon comes to realise the deadly trap his team walked into.

He looks to his left, then to his right.

Notices his friends motionless bodies lying around him.

Pools of blood are the present homes of the now deceased team mates.

The soldier looks into the sky through the trees whilst lying in his friends blood.

The liquids of his friends mixed with the taste of his tears is a taste that should never come to a man’s mouth.

As the visions become less frequent.

So does vision itself.

The soldier is loosing life’s firm grip by each minute.

At least an hour passes.

That man is still lying there.

Lying there almost lifeless on the floor.

The man is staring up at the sky with bloodshot eyes.

He sees a number of jets fly above the trees.

The jets drop curved barrels down at the land below.

Looking at them, the soldier doesn’t understand what he’s seeing.

He hears the barrels drop onto the floor far from him.

He looks to his right once again.

Sees a wave of blue flames fly towards him and his friends.

He knows its too late for him but wants to save his friends.

He looks above him by a whistle of something.

Another barrel comes down towards him.

Now the soldier and his team mates are better off.

Better off and away from the hell that is.

Vietnam.
