Winter from behind a window.
Early March

On the roof, outside the window
are glare crusted humpbacked whales,
carved by the unforgiving wind of early March
as it pushed through the last breaths
of a sinking winter.

The sun crowns,
bejewelling these icebound leviathans,
dressing them with
a delicate blaze of beauty
before moving them toward
a slow, mellifluous death.

Frosted pods,
briefly beached on shingle ridged rooftops,
slowly submerge majestically
with flukes raised skyward,
bowing to the transcendent hunter
as new life readies itself
beneath the calming waves.
