A dark free form poem written on Ninety Minutes of sleep in the last 24 hours
The night is broken by her call
Two AM contacts rarely pleasurable
My cell sings its' sad download again
Her voice filled with pain and loneliness,
Hopelessness her real companion

I ask where she is
She replies, she does not know
On the road to nowhere again
I surmise with no pleasure
She is more hopeless than she realizes

I hear the mans' voice in the car
I ask who might it be
I do not know, she replies
I am afraid for her more than she
Another decision made by her master

How can that be, I ask
I don't know, she answers
Thoughts of Mr. Goodbar
Fill my troubled head
Images of loss pervade

The danger of her condition is real
It takes her places that we should not go
Places us with people we do not want to know
It is her reality, this sinking ship she has become
Listing badly to her starboard side, awash in the waves

She has taken a drink
Now the drink has taken her
Can the jumping off point be far away
The fear grips me and holds me
I know this tiger for I have ridden his tail

Good sense is tossed away like the baby's bath
Sound judgment drowned in a sea of confusion
Danger real and present to anyone of proper mind
Oblivion her companion laughing loudly at her
The dilemma fraught with sublime thoughts

She has been there before
Alone with someone
Hoping that he take her life
Because she cannot
The difficulty solved by proxy

This way frees her of the deed
And the complications and questions
That would certainly follow
Hardly a new thought for anyone
Just an easier, less messy way

The remaining would comfort each other
Believing that it was someone else
It's easier to hate them for what they have done
Than to love her for what she could not do
She likes it nice and tidy that way
