Perceptions can vary. It is up to us to know what's true |
There is nothing like the light that comes through the window on the first day of vacation. It says “Wake up. There are exciting things out there. Things that you’ve been waiting for. Fill your heart with possibilities.” True, it took a couple of days of preparation to get to this little out of the way motel in the mountains. It took 8 hours to get here. ( Yes we could have done it quicker) Some of you with a more scientific bent might say. “Wait a minute. Isn’t this the same light that you left on the desert floor?” There is one thing that’s different--my perception. There is ample time to notice the multitude of birds surrounding my writing table in the glen. To notice the stone wall with mortar falling out of the cracks and discoloring moss. Its probably been here longer that I have and I am not a young man. The wall has seen the joy and banter of families, felt thoughts and of course, the smells of cooking and being satisfied. Surely we can wake up, see, smell and touch the same things in our lives. The trouble we have is we don’t do it. Depressed thoughts only lead to other depressed thoughts. There is no room for anything else. Jesus said “I am the light of the World.” Later it is said of believers “That people living in darkness have seen a great light.” Their lives didn’t get one watt brighter. Their perceptions did. They saw things that were brighter and more alive than they had ever seen before. Those things were available to them before. They were just unseen. These unseen scenes can be the blessings of three decades of marriage that you have to admit works, even when it doesn’t. Your heavenly Father has brought you through all sorts of tenuous situations. You need to notice how things things make you feel, not whatever bad thought you might being having at a given moment. I could ask the motel proprietor for a pane of glass from his window but the special windows we see our life through defy physical reality and head towards the unseen universe that has been orchestrated from the beginning of time. If you look through the right windows, you actually see life as it really is, without distortion |
