As you enter the inner sanctum, you sense a spiritual presence. The hollowed room contains streams of sacred artifacts on its shelves. Incense strikes your senses. A pseudo-shrine is sits in the corner. Humility grips your soul. Welcome to the Trina room!
Scott Kemp (45) was listening to his favorite hip-hop station one afternoon when he heard the voice of Katrina Taylor resonate from the radio. Kemp became so enchanted by the rising hip-hop star he remodeled the rear bedroom of his Phoenix home as a shrine to Taylor whose nom de plume is Trina.
“Some people are just fans of Trina. Some people may be in infatuated and some people may be obsessed. I am obsessed,” Kemp said.
Kemp’s obsession became a pilgrimage when Trina was slated to perform at the Venue in North Scottsdale. He managed to buy a ticket to the sold out performance and find his way to a front row seat.
After the concert, Kemp spoke to Taylor, “I told her about the Trina room and how I have all her pictures in the room. I have all her C.D.’s and told her of that too. She wished she could see it and all her homies too.”
Kemp is not sure the Trina room will remain intact but is positive that Taylor will always be his idol. “I may not have the room for long,” Kemp said, “but I will always love my Trina.”
