Angharad has lived in solititude for most of her life with her mother, her father dead and her brother a traitor living on foreign soil. When her father's best friend, William, proposes marriage, she lives in fear of an unhappy marriage to a lustful and untrustworthy man old enough to be her father. But she is reprieved of this marriage and she is determined to take charge of her life, not ever wanting anyone to have such power or fear over her. Relationships between men and women need not be so serious or frightening, she soon learns. When she does meet a man who has touched her heart through her stony exterior, she finds that his life is intertwined with a man of her past, William. And the past may not let her go.
