Jackson Minnesota

I live in Jackson Minnesota. It is a little town just ten miles north of the Iowa border and we like to say we are the first defense against an Iowegian invasion. Of course, I am sure they have a similar saying on their side of the boarder.

Jackson is a small town of about 3,500 people; at least half of them retired farmers. I am still trying to figure out which one of them came up with the idea for the cat leash law. I assure you neither Dott nor Mr. Schnuffles find that particular law humorous.

Over the years I have lived in many places due to some wandering gene in my mother, but Minnesota became home and more specifically Jackson about twelve years ago. My husband and I had packed the kids up and were heading back to Mankato, Minnesota after a disastrous year of trying to live in Florida. We stopped here in Jackson to visit Grandma Ruby and never left. We have no regrets. Small town living suits us.

I have heard that in Texas you can saddle the mosquitoes and cock roaches and ride them. I do not think we grow them that big here in Minnesota, but do to being the land of two thousand lakes erm mosquito breeding grounds, they are plentiful. One learns to never leave standing water about and I encourage birds to visit often.

As you may or may not know Jackson is right in the middle of Minnesota farm country. Even before you get to the edge of town you will note corn and soy beans for as far as the eye can see. Keeping up with the farming tradition, I have a small garden of my own. I was very excited to get to plant my own asparagus this year and have been keeping a running count of how many of the plants came up. I am up to 9 out the twelve I planted.

I also have some lovely tomato plants or as my husband calls them tomato trees. Several of them are almost as tall as me and they have already started producing baby tomatoes.

It is once again a glorious day here and although I have enjoyed sharing a taste of my paradise with you, I must away to the garden to check on my many babies before Dott or Mr. Schnuffles remember that they need more rubs and scratches. Thank you for visiting.
