I can only whisper those words.

Looking up,

Eyes wide,

Like I'm seeing you for the first time,

And despite myself,

I can't help but be in awe.

So thank you.

For being there

And being gone

And being you.

I wouldn't have chosen a different

First.

Deep.

Cut?

Nah.

We both know I'm not that dramatic.

But thank you

For the experience,

And the smiles,

And the proof.

Like co-workers parting,

We laugh, saying things like

"Good luck with that promotion"

Or

"We'll miss you around here."

See?

No real loss,

Only friends parting.

Why all the melodrama?

You'll be there,

And I'll be here.

But my eyes well up

For some GodAwful reason.

And for that,

I thank you,

For your patients

And understanding.

Or misunderstanding.

Whatever got us through THIS or THAT

Or WHATEVER the hell it was.
