Graceful, beautiful rain
you fall to bring life where the ground is thirsty
you make smooth that which was dry and hardened,
give life and make green that which was parched and dying
you turn nothing into something
and make more beautiful what was already there.
Your gentle music makes my soul sing praises.
I watch you crash!
... shatter across the floor and run with urgency
across dry pavement, along concrete walls, over dark tar roads
and on side walks,
solid and still.
These lifeless things seem not to need you!
wasted rain, what purpose are you achieving?
From corners and cracks and the tiniest of crevasses
I see life rising to greet the sun
... green shoots growing,
inspite of their concrete cages.
We build our buildings and high walls on the land of our hearts
The rain comes to bring us life but we close the windows
and shut it out,
too afraid to embrace it
May Your rain fall down in floods over me,
and wash away everything that man has built.
