A thank you note to my friend Deb
Deb called today to check on me.
Lifting me when times were tough,
on many points, we agree.
However, why does she say in touch?
Why is she my friend?
Why is she always there in the clutch?
Why did she try so hard to help me mend?
Why are friends, friends?

Those questions I will ponder as I write,
when I have the answers so will you.
I was in desperate need to talk about my plight,
I thought of her, so I sent a text; what could she do?
She called me and spent an hour on the phone,
listening to my crying and feeling my pain.
Perhaps surprised by the trust I had shown,
we bonded, that morning a true friend, I did gain.

After all, we did not know each other that well.
I am a Hold'em player; she is a card dealer;
great fun to be at her table, she liked me too, I could tell.
Who knew a text would turn her into a healer.
Please understand, she is a woman and I am a man,
friends we are, that is all; she is in love and engaged.
People said they loved me!  Where are they?  Not in their plan;
It is their business, it is who they are, I am not getting enraged.

The answers to all the questions is very clear-cut,
Deb is simply Deb, she is, who, she is.
She cared for a desperate man because it is in her gut.
Lucky for me the friendship grew and did not fizz.
If it were not for Deb, I never would have made it through.
jimmfin would have met his end.
She became the most vital person, to me, of all those I knew.
I am her friend, she is mine; I do not deserve her; my thanks I extend.
