three poem series

A Broken Branch

The olive branch I extended was snapped in half
Firmly rejected by a former ally
Personified by failed diplomacy
Stunned at our inability to come to terms
If things were different
If I was different
Maybe our stars would align
Instead I walk alone
With this broken branch as a reminder

Dedicated to an old friend, I miss you

THE SECOND PIECE OF THE SERIES:

spites emissary

to the grain of sand in my eye - there are no tears left for you
your scratching around - has dulled my lens
the images grow cloudy as an unwelcome guest barges in
disturbing a sleeping wrath

arms flail at the intruder who interrupts my solace -
which is merely a respite from the torrent within
a composed bit of clarity - masks an all too real malevolence
a mirror image that haunts and disgusts every ounce of being

spites emissary now breathes her cruel poison through me
as thoughts swim with a reckless abandon and malaise
enveloped by nebulous accusation - I pull at the wrenching disgust
where this day has gone awry

THE THIRD PIECE OF THE SERIES:

CAN YOU SEE THE POEM WITHIN?

naked discourse

hollow words reveal a barren soul
jealousy is a splinter which stings innocence
youth is a luxury afforded to the lucky
as your crumbling frail bitterness consumes

at what point do we blame ourselves -
once the fallen remain to lament
the broken pieces of sanity to which you cling -
are merely floating remnants of shipwrecked words

strewn about on jagged rocks named spite
lashing out at fate for being cruel -
while the world passes by like a winters dawn
naked in a place forsaken by warmth

spitting insults in a futile discourse
recoiling from the backlash of actuality
my tolerance is but a strand -
long broken by this detractors glare
