a philosophical look at the worth of mankind
Why is it easy for some men to love?
Then simple to fill them with hate?
Perhaps guidance is needed from high up above,
Lend us wisdom, so we might debate.

"Man is evil, despicable, I'd even say callous,
Inherent facts, which fail them God's test,
Acting sans insight, compassion, only malice,
And with that the prosecution does rest."

"A fair point that you've made, but when given a spade,
Men have built cities, roads and homes,
Don't forget fire brigades, foundations they've laid,
The sweet words which fill up their tomes."

"Ingenuity, yes, but used without honor,
Accomplishments dwarfed by mistakes often made,
Unable to gaze at themselves in their mirror,
Unwilling to offer their brethren aid."

"I see what you mean, though facts I did glean,
Watching righteous, and good, godly men,
I wish you had seen, these folks intervene,
Spreading holy commandments ten."

"I know of these men, their hands on their bible,
Their actions are always the same,
They preach love and kindness, everything tribal,
Then conquer and kill in God's name."

"You just might be right, I forfeit the fight,
They are clearly a miserable lot,
So bring on the night, deprive them of light,
And let the whole bunch of them rot."

But mercy is divine, so we shall remain,
We dodged a bullet, my friend,
And yet with a world in which all are to blame,
Are we lucky it chose not to end?
