Jack tries to tell about his day to grown-ups (Ch. Wr. Wkshp -Re:The cumulative story) |
Jack McCool's Long Day at School Young Jack McCool Came home from school And no one could wait to ask him, How his day had been, Who was his new best friend, And boy was he ready to tell them! I tripped over my shoelace Came third in the sack race And Sam said he wasn't my friend. At lunch I spilled juice All over my shoes And that's not even the end. "Oh, my" said his mom, "Your day was a bomb. I think you deserve a snack." So he slumped to the kitchen And there sat Aunt Gretchen Who asked, "How was your first day back?" Well, I tripped over my shoelace, Came third in the sack race, And Sam said he wasn't my friend. At lunch I spilled juice All over my shoes, And that's not even the end. Emma Claire said my feet stank, I spilled paint in the fishtank, And I tripped a bully named Glenn. As Jack talked on, Gretchen answered her phone And motioned for him to wait. But he excused himself, Grabbed some chips from the shelf, And looked for his big sister, Kate. Before she asked He began his task Reciting it over again, For he knew she would stay And hear what he must say 'Cause she was his very best friend. So, I tripped over my shoelace Came third in the sack race And Sam said he wasn't my friend. At lunch I spilled juice All over my shoes And that's not even the end. Emma Claire said my feet stank, I spilled paint in the fishtank, And I tripped a bully named Glenn. But he didn't get mad, Just rolled over and said, "Hey kid, wanna be my new friend?" Kate gave him a hug And said, "C'mon you lug, Let's go and find our Dad. He's been looking forward to Hearing your story through. And what a long day you've had." When they found their father, Jack decided, why bother To say it all over again? When his dad asked him "Say, What happened today?", Jack said, "I've a new buddy named Glenn." SWPoet |
