Another fairy tale rewriting
Li'l Red Hen was industrious;
She kept the barnyard hoppin'.
She had no time for rest or play;
For her there was no stoppin'.

The other yard fowl weren't so keen
about workin' and the like;
So one day they decided that
they would both go on a strike.

"It's time to plant the wheat my friends,
so who will volunteer?"
But Goose and Duck just met her with
a mean and nasty sneer.

"Oh, that's ok," Red Hen just smiled,
"My chicks will help me, you know."
Duck said to Goose, "We should've done
this a long,long time ago."

Now when the wheat was ripe, Hen asked,
"Who will take this to the mill?"
"Not I," said Duck, "Not I," said Goose.
Hen sighed, "Then I guess I will."

Returning from the mill with flour
Hen sang, "Let's bake us some bread!"
"Not I," the two chimed in quickly.
Hen clucked, "I'll do it instead."

Now after all the bread was baked,
She set it out for coolin'.
Then Duck and Goose came waddlin' and
Their beaks were slightly droolin'.

She spied them from the window sill,
Their tongues hangin' from their beaks.
"Now who will help me eat?" she asked,
With her own tongue in her cheek.

"We will" she heard from just outside
"No you won't'" she softly said,
"For he who doesn't work won't eat;
No, you will both starve instead."

So Goose and Duck went dragging home;
This lesson was sorely learned:
The one who doesn't work shall get
exactly what he has earned.
