Observations on the current Presidential Race. |
If you believe all the political ads, our nation and its people are in grave danger and we should be afraid of the other party winning the election. Political consultants understand that fear is a powerful motivator. However their approach to using fear is to generate panic and unthinking reaction. When I was in the military my Colonel explained that fear was not my enemy but my friend. It heightened my senses, it kept me awake and pumped adrenaline into my system. It basically kept me alive. Bravery was not the absence of fear but the ability to overcome it. Our country was established by citizens who overcame their fear of the British, Indians, unknown territories and failure. We struck out on our own and set about to create the greatest nation on this earth. Why should we be afraid today? Fear is the stock in trade of manipulators who see us as pawns in their game of politics. As long as we allow them to move us around by playing on our fears we fail to face the challenges of our time. We have it within our power to find solutions to the problems of the day, but we must not let ourselves be driven by the stampeding herd of political junkies. Sit down and take a big breath. Think about the reasons why America is a great country and then decide which candidate will fulfill our destiny. FDR said it best " All we have to fear is fear itself." |
