I storm out of a raucous evening
spent with acquaintances auld
into the unwelcoming night,
furious at being
misunderstood.
And as the door eases itself from ajar,
stifling the humiliating guffaws,
I find myself,
alone
with face on long,
perched atop shoulders hunched,
in a deluge of rain
with rising puddles at my feet.
And I realize,
with growing contempt at my own folly,
and with lips spreading
in rare expression of joy
that it is indeed I
that misunderstands.
