A kind of saga-poem inspired by Soldiers of the Wasteland by Dragonforce
As we stood shield to shield underneath the blazing sun,
I could feel our spirits rising and our hearts beat as one,
Rank upon rank of brothers and sons joined together,
Formed into an eternal force that would live on forever.

And so we waited on that hillside defying our foes,
The honour of what awaited banishing any woes,
Underneath our king's banner no man would stand alone,
As we waited on that hillside so far away from home.

At last we saw our enemy mass in a pitch black horde,
Such a dark and hellish host struck an evil chord,
So we raised our swords up to the sky and shouted for the king,
Then replaced them with our shields as arrows began to sing.

And so we stood out on that hillside defying arrows,
The honour of our people outweighing all our woes,
Underneath our king's banner no man would stand alone,
As we waited on that hillside so far away from home.

At last the volley ceased and we heard a chilling cry,
And terror gripped our hearts and prayers flew to the sky,
As a sea of pure darkness swept towards our shield,
Crashing against our bodies as our rock refused to yield.

And so as we gritted our teeth on that hillside so green,
Our swords flashing a dark crimson their blades no longer clean,
Underneath our king's banner no man would stand alone,
As we waited on that hillside so far away from home.

Man after man died against the sharp blades of our swords,
And by my feet rose a mound of corpse upon corpse,
I saw my comrades fall around me, replaced by those behind,
And the same was happening to those on the enemy lines,

And so we stood and we fell on that crimson hillside grass,
Killing all of our enemies, cutting into their mass,
Underneath our king's banner no man would stand alone,
As we waited on that hillside so far away from home.

Their numbers began to dwindle and I let up a cheer,
But I barely heard it return and I looked back with fear,
Where once had been stood an almighty shining fighting host,
There stood but only a few men, the rest been turned to ghost.

And so I stood with but a few men upon that hillside,
And we fought hard as devils and many more of theirs died,
Underneath our king's banner this one man stood alone,
Victoriously stood so very far away from home.
