This is a tribute to DeForest Kelley, who was Dr. McCoy of Star Trek.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
January 21, was the birthday of DeForest Kelley, Admiral Leonard H. McCoy of StarFleet. He is no longer with us but through the wonderful DVD sets, we can witness his verbal jousting with Spock, his heroic medical actions and wise counseling to his good friends. He never went on duty unable to do his job; he spoke honestly and lived life in a gracious manner. Could we use a few Leonard McCoys today? You bet! Will there be a need for men like this in space. Yes again. He was the first of the original cast to go. Dear DeForest Kelley, Thank you for making Star Trek: The Original Series a pleasure to watch.

Dear Doctor

We miss the gentleman, surgeon, and friend.
His never forgot his oath to serve.
His patients were Horta, Vulcan and man,
He kept his arguments in reserve.

McCoy was his name, to Star Fleet of course.
The chief medical officer of starship Enterprise.
To Captain Kirk, 'Ole Bones' was simply the best.
Awards of honor and valor, his legendary record justifies.

To all on board this doctor was a friend.
His advice was direct, never poppycock.
He was human and showed emotions galore.
But his specialty was tete-a-tete with Spock.

We miss you DeForest Kelley.
Your service to us cannot be outdone.
For as a member of the Original Enterprise crew.
The respect and admiration you have certainly won!

Your shift has ended doctor. All hailing frequencies are closed!
