Got a light?
My family would warn me in their own way.
A nail in your coffin is what they would say.
At that time, my health was not a concern.
It seemed so ironic just what I would learn.

I told them I had quit, but they knew I lied.
No smoking at home, we had to go outside.
Everyone should just keep their mouths shut.
I smoked the cigarette way down to the butt.

A ten-minute break was enough time for a puff.
I started to cough up all that nasty brown stuff.
I coughed for a while, and got an idea in my head.
Maybe I should quit smoking before I am dead.

I saw a show on lung cancer and smoking.
My final reaction was they are not joking.
Seems all the actors had gone through this before.
So I made the decision, I would smoke no more.

Today is the day I will fight my addiction.
A long road ahead would be my prediction.
The prescription was expensive but caused no pain.
The doctor said the drug works by blocking the brain.

The health issues finally made me understand.
Second hand smoke was a danger to this land.
I quit for three months without any remorse.
I have now put my life back on its course.
