A poem on the southern experience.
Come…
And take a walk with me
Get clay between your toes

Taste…
The nectar of nature
Here the muscadine grows

See…
Windblown fields bowing low
Painted puffed popcorn white

Think…
Recall distant, dark days
Of the slaves hopeless plight

Hear…
The mourning dove crying
What could have went so wrong

Wait…
As the mockingbird sings
A never equaled song

Smell…
Honeysuckle’s sweet scent
Blowing on midnight’s breeze

Stand…
Where cool, dark waters flow
Beneath green cypress trees

Come…
Take off those heavy shoes
I’ll teach you to say ya’ll

Here…
You’ll learn to love our life
And live the southern drawl
