Thoughts After the Ending

Perhaps what we might seek
After the fit of pique
Is the time well spent
The lessons learnt

There were times of joy
For both the girl and boy
And times of fun
When we'd just begun

Perhaps the weight of sorrow
Is not something we must borrow
But the light of day
That brightened our way

It hurts, of course
As these things will
It’s part of the cost
And a bitter pill

Perhaps it’s time to weigh
The rate we pay…
The cost is dear
Especially when the time is near

Am I worth the cost
Of the hoped-for love lost?
Was the journey
Better than being lonely?

Time will tell
And we know time well…
