Chapter seven

When he finished Jaybriel had mixed feelings.Upset and ashamed when he'd admitted to knowing for years about the demon's plan.Understanding when Jade grew angry at finding out her mother had died because she'd been mistaken as her.Glad when Jade's face grew red at the reminder of why Jaybriel hadn't needed to be binded to follow her.Guilt because he'd put her in danger. "Can I go now?" Jaybriel asked,irritated. "You didn't tell us the demon's name, " said Marie.Jaybriel snorted. "Mybe because I don't know her real name," he said. Marie started to say something,but Jade cut her off. "What name do you know her by?" asked Jade.
"You won't find her in any books,so it'd be the same as if you didn't know her name," said Jaybriel. Jade gave an annoyed sigh. "Jaybriel-," started Jade. "Fine then Woman.Her name is Mei," said Jaybriel." I wouldn't summon her though.This circle is only holding me cause I'm letting it.And you can only stay on sacred ground for so long.On another notre,can I freakin go now?" Jade nodded.Jaybriel made a mocking bow,and then disappeared.

"He's rude and a smartass on top of that," said Marie,now back in the circle.Jade sighed. "After three years you get used to it.But rude or not I'd be dead right now if not for him.And he did help us," she said. Marie grunted. "We asked for information on the demon," she said. "Which he gave.Of course he cleared up alot of other things too," said Jade. "But at least I know what I took from her ,". Marie shook her head and sighed. "It's forbidden you know.What you're doing," she said.Jade smiled. "Rules can't tell you who right for you mama.Besides it's so off and on noone gets a chance to detect it," she said. "Trouble's coming," said Marie. "I'm a witch mama.My life is on the line everyday.I'm used to trouble," said Jade. Marie couldn't help but laugh. "In that case prepare to fight a woman scorned," she said with a smile. "Okay, mama.Well, let's go see what the books have to say about Mei," said Jade. "Bye,Jade.I look forward to seeing you again.However that may be," said Marie.Jade nodded,with tears in her eyes,and her mother disappeared.

Ashley found Jade once again in the library,head buried in a book. "Obviously you're not planning on quitting,so do you want dinner in here?" asked Ashley. Jade nodded.Ashley started to turn around, but said," Jaybriel is standing like a watchdog on the other side of my gate.He looks pissed off,". "I summoned him," said Jade without looking up.Ashley stared in disbelief. "He let you?"asked Ashley.Jade smiled.It was common knowledge that Jatbriel hated being summoned and normally ignored anyone who tried.He'd refused Ashley's summons on numerous occassions. "Yes,he let me.But,as you can see,he's not happy he did," said Jade.Ashley rolled her eyes. "Anyways,it's chicken and rice for dinner since I wasn't expecting company.Anything you want me to tell Jaybriel?" she asked. "Thanks and I'm sorry," said Jade.Ashley walked away without asking.

After another two hours Jade finally gave up.Once again Jaybriel was right.As she ate her dinner,now cold,Jade thought about what she'd been told.According to Jaybriel her mother had been killed because Mei thought she was Jade.Confused,Jade wondered how that could've happened.Then,as she was chewing a peice of chicken,Jade realized the similarities between her mother and herself.Jade,like her mother,had chest-length black hair and light brown hair.But her mother's skin was a light,honey color while Jade's was a slightly bronze color from the sun.Their heights were only inches apart. "So she's fixing her mistake," said Jade with a dry,bitter laugh. "Yes,I am," said a voicebehind Jade.Jade turned around just as strong hands threw her into a bookcase.Jade started to fight back,but a bolt of lightning flew towards her.She dove out of the way.Rolling,and then jumping back up.Jade used a levitation spell to toss the tall amazonian-looking woman into the air,and then drop her.She yelled out for Ashley just as the woman stood up and ran over to her with amazing speed.Jade started to shout a spell,but the woman grabbed her by the throat.Very slowly the woman squeezed until tears ran from Jade's eyes.Jade kicked and struggled to loosen the woman's grip,but to no avail.Just as her eyes were starting to flutter Jade heard Jaybriel's voice shout out," Mei,let her go!"

Mei didn't let go,but grinned instead. "Let's make him beg some more,"whispered Mei cruelly,tightning her grip on Jade's throat.Jade choked as she tried as she tried to call out for help.Mei laughed loudly,reveling in Jade's pain.Suddenly,her laughter was cut off by a scream as she was struck in the back by a burst of flame. "Let her go," said Jade angrily. Mei dropped Jade and faced Jaybriel.Using both hands she sent bolts of lightning towards him.They were deflected by a shield before they were even close.To counter it Jaybriel shouted something in his native tounge and Mei screamed in agony.She fell to her knees,but she manamged to split the floor all the way to where Jaybriel stood.Taking away Jaybriel's footing.He fell,but he jumped up just in time to dodge another lightning bolt.Cursing under his breath Jaybriel jumped into another series of attacks.

Despite the dizziness that threatened to overcome her Jade forced herself into a crouching position.She focused on Mei,then aimed a paralyzing spell at her.It didn't do much,but it distracted Mei long enough for Jaybriel to jump across the room and land a punch to Mei's face.Mei flew backwards,crashing through five rows of bookcases.Jaybriel lept over them and landed on Mei,driving her into the ground.Mei lifted Jaybriel up and flipped him over her head.Jaybriel tucked into a roll,then reached out and grabbed Mei by her long,red hair.Tossing her like a doll into the opposite wall.Mei stood up to attack,but Jade attacked her with a mutilation spell.Mei screamed as her entire right arm split open.Jaybriel aimed a fire and lightning spell in quick succession.Jade followed Jaybriel'a attack with another mutilation spell aimed at Mei's spell aimed at Mei's legs.Mei fell,blood streaming from her arms and legs,but she fired a lightning spell at Jade.Without thinking Jaybriel threw himself in fromt of Jade,hitting Mei with an explosion spell at the same time.

The explosion thundered in both their ears and blinded them.When Jade could see again Mei was gone.Holding on to Jaybriel's arm Jade asked, "What happened to her?" "She ran to recover.I told you sacred ground wasn't going to save you for long," said Jaybriel.He started to walk away,but Jade stopped him. "But Ashley's still alive isn't she?" she asked. "She's wounded badly and her powers are weak.If we go now we can still save her," said Jaybriel.Jade nodded and followed Jaybriel out.
