Beyond the exhaustion Breath forsakes the panting lung Defying signs for caution I stepped into darkness, my heart was stung It was in that cool grasp That my scream became a rasp And I felt that great urgency The need to turn and flee From the mouth that beckoned me But here I have fallen The pale beast seeks its prey And the fright I find apalling For my blood her mouth will take I roll upon my back, my eyes seek and find Death, as a beauty, of the palest kind From the sky swifter than the eagle with prey in sight She stands on me, she kneels on me, still goes the night She smiles and laughter follows, her rapture fills the air Her teeth glisten as she listens to my fearful heart prepare She comes against my neck, her breath sweet and cool She whispers a riddle, but I feel the fool She kisses first with a delicate press To aim the spot her mouth will rest And I feel her pointed fangs scrape against my neck It is beautiful, lovable, it ceases my aching breath And as I lay there dying, prostrate upon the ground She wipes my stain and serenades me with a sound I wish to speak, to touch her lips with mine But I am paralyzed by her blessed lullaby |
