I stumbled on a tiny seed under a great dead tree...
I was walking through the woods one day
When I tripped on the root of a tree
Its legs were gnarled and contorted
Its bark as rough as stone

And its massive form was dry and dead
With nothing to behold.

I frowned at the poor thing
Its lonely life all used up
But I found a small seed below my palm
Ready to grow up.

Snatching up the fragile thing
I took off down the road
And planted the tiny pocket of life
In the soil next to a pond

I visited the spot every day
With nowhere else to go
And soon it sprouted
A tiny leaf among the thick brown earth

Years passed and rings grew
Within its mighty trunk
I watched it grow and grow
Until I felt as if I'd shrunk.

Soon it stood taller than every tree
That fought within that forest
A legacy to behold in all of its glory
So I took some wood and found some nails

And I built myself a house
Nestled safely within its welcoming limbs
Atop its lofty form
And there I rested peacefully

Alas my life at close.
