A haunting memory in the Samisen form.
Wending down life’s path, will you dream of me?
Dream of me
as you tend to daily chores, dream of me
sharing that load with you,
during birthday celebrations,
driving the kids to school
and then to their graduations?
Dream of me?

Lying in your bed, do you dream of me?
Dream of me
and the sweet love we once made, dream of me
holding you in my arms
while we made our pledges anew
to cherish forever,
before I had to bid adieu?
Dream of me.

Even though we are apart, dream of me.
Dream of me
with you on that path. Will you dream of me
as I was before duty called
me away to that war?
Keep our dreams alive in your heart,
just as they were before.
Dream of me.

Author’s note: The Samisen is an enchanting poetry form named after a Japanese three-stringed musical instrument. A brief definition and more examples can be found at the following link: http://www.writing.com/main/newsletters/action/archives/id/1925
