Thorns hidden in roses gifted reflect a bleeding heart.
HIDDEN THORNS

Thanks my friend for this bouquet
Of red roses you brought.
But why is your demeanour
So sullen and distraught?

You wish to congratulate
Me for the love I found.
But for me these roses do
Emit a wailing sound.

They seem to say that today
Someone’s heart does so bleed
As if to prick the petals,
The wily thorns proceed.

I cannot forget your love,
You don’t have to remind.
I cherish the moments when
The two of us entwined.

But, my friend, life must move on.
We parted in the way.
You did seek your love elsewhere.
No, I did not betray.

Your love betrayed you, but mine
Walked up to the altar.
While offering this bouquet,
Why do you now falter?
