Bears take a bath and make a mess.
I wrote Bathtime Bears in 2000. I have worked on revising this story for a while and finally have it the way I like it.

Bathtime Bears

After a long day of playing at the park, the bears were all dirty and felt really tired. They picked up all their toys and headed home.
When we get home you need to get cleaned up and get ready for bed”, said Momma bear.
About an hour later Momma bear heard a noise upstairs and went to see what it was. She found the bathroom a big mess, so she called all three bears together to find out what had happened. Teddy Bear and Suzy Bear both agreed that Baby Bear had made the mess.”
“No, I didn’t.” said Baby Bear.
“Teddy Bear, can you tell me what happened?” asked Momma.
Suzy Bear and I were getting cleaned up and then Baby Bear came in and got mad because we wouldn’t let him in the tub,” said Teddy Bear looking at the floor with his hands behind his back.
Momma bear stood with her hands on her hips, looking back and forth between Teddy Bear and Suzy Bear.
“Suzy Bear, what is your excuse?” asked Momma.
“It’s like Teddy Bear said” Suzy Bear answered. “We were only cleaning up and Baby Bear made the mess. We forgot all about the water still running and the bubbles went all over the floor.
“What happened to my plant that was sitting in the window?” Momma Bear asked. She wanted to know how it had gotten broken.
“I was in my room playing. I heard Teddy and Suzy laughing and the water splashing,” said Baby Bear as he curled up and sat on the floor. “I went to see what was going on and when I came into the bathroom there were bubbles all over the floor, they left the water running in the tub,” spoke Baby Bear as he wrinkled his nose while he spoke. Picking up his rubber ducky, Baby Bear continued,
“I put my rubber ducky on the chair so I could play in the tub with them but they wouldn’t let me.” Looking around he said. “But I didn’t put the sailboat or the shampoo on the floor.” Glancing up at Suzy and Teddy he said, “When we heard you coming down the hall, Teddy and Suzy said they were going to tell you that I made the mess.” Baby Bear stood up and walked over to Momma and said, “I was going to go out the window to hide but that was when I slipped and hit the plant, so it fell off and broke.”
With a slight grin on her face, Momma slipped an arm around Baby Bear.
“I see,” said Momma, “Now how should we fix this problem? It seems we have a couple different stories here and we still don’t know who really made the mess.”
The little bears sat quietly looking at the floor. After a few moments of letting them think about what had happened, Momma asked, “Have you all learned your lesson?”
“Yes, Momma,” the three bears answered in unison.
“Alright then,” Momma said, “For your punishment we will all go and clean up the mess together. I don’t want this to ever happen again.”
“It won’t momma, I promise,” said Teddy bear.
“It won’t momma,” said Suzy bear looking at Baby bear, “I’m sorry.”
“It won’t, Momma,” said Baby Bear as he gave her a hug so tight that it made her cough.
After it was cleaned up Momma kissed and hugged each bear and told them how proud she was of them for helping clean the mess without fighting. “Come on,” she said “I’ll tuck you all into bed and we’ll start a fresh day in the morning.”
