This Bridge is Beautiful

The sky is singing symphony
And this bridge is beautiful tonight
For the rain pours down in torrents
As my tears fall out of sight

They're hitting that black water
As I fight through tears to catch a breath
One step onto the open air
And I'll join the swirling depths

I take one step from concrete
And with one last tear within my eye
I say farewell to my creator
As I raise my head toward the sky

And I say, "God, this bridge is beautiful
And it could take away my pain
But my family could never forget me
And my love's tears instead would join the rain."

"So I'm stepping from this ledge tonight
Away from you and peaceful depths
And though they'd take me to eternity
I'd rather take each painful breath."

And as the waters said farewell to me
And my silhouette strolled out of sight
God paused the sky's sweet symphony
As I left that bridge that night

And He said, "I know this bridge is beautiful
But embrace that long and lonely mile
For the waters here don't lead to me
I'm in your every loved one's smile"

The sky is singing symphony
As I leave that bridge and its dark depths
And though the rain pours down in torrents
I smile...
      As I take a breath.
