Monique goes on a mini shopping spree
Chapter 3

It had been awhile since I’d been inside anybody’s bank, for myself anyways. Mr. Michaels, or Richard as he asked me to call him, walked inside the Chase bank that was across the street. A short, heavy set black woman walked over to us smiling.

“Hi Uncle Ricky.” She said, hugging him.

“Hi, I can’t stay, but this is the young woman I told you about, treat her like you’d treat me, just don’t rob her blind.”

“Whatever. Hi Monique, I’m Vicki. Don’t pay any attention to my uncle here.”

“Monique, it’s been a pleasure to finally meet you. Here’s my card, if you ever need an attorney give me a call. I won’t charge you a thing.”

“Thanks so much Richard.”

“Your welcome, Vicki, I’ll see you Sunday?”

“Look at me, I’m a house, of course you’ll see me Sunday.”

He walked out of the building, I could see the metro town car he’d left for me was still outside.

“Well come on Monique, Uncle Richard says you’ve got a check that you want to cash and that you want to open an account?”

“Yes.”

“Great, we’ll set you right up, come with me.”

Nearly an hour later I walked out of the bank and climbed into the town car. I asked the driver to take me to the Compuware building across the street. In my shoulder bag I had two huge bank envelopes filled with $100,000, more money than I’d ever had in my life. Thanks to Vicki, I’d cashed the check and deposited twenty-five million into a checking account, twenty-five million into savings, ten million into a security box, and the remaining forty million into stocks and bonds. She even offered to put a rush on the ATM card and a check book. She asked me if I was comfortable carrying the amount of money that I’d withdrawn, since I had transportation, I wasn’t worried. As the driver drove across the street, I took $1200out of one of the envelopes and put the rest back in my bag.

“You won’t go anywhere will you?” I asked the driver, whose name was Owen.

“No ma’am, I’ll be right here when you come out.”
I had him open the trunk so that I could put my bag inside, and I walked into the Compuware building. Border’s my favorite bookstore, I love coming here, my own personal world. I grabbed one of the shopping bags that they provided, and began my journey through the store. I walked up and down the isles, putting my favorite books and magazines into the bag, getting chills up and down my spine. The only time I’d been able to buy any books was when I received my child support check, or Lewis had extra money to spare. But now, I had all the money to buy whatever book or magazine I wanted. By the time I’d gone through the entire store, I had four of their shopping bags waiting for me at the counter. I watched as the cashier rang each and every book and magazine up, when she finished, my total came to $1,064.04. I handed over the amount, and waited for my receipt and bags.

“Have fun reading.” She said with a grin as she handed me my bags.

“Thanks, I will.”

I lugged all of the bags outside and over to the car. Owen popped the trunk and got out and helped me.

“Thank you.”

It was a little after two according to the clock on the dashboard. My mom and Lewis would be home sometime around three, which gave me an hour to shop. I decided to go to a super Kmart not far from the house, since he had a navigational map, Owen had no problem finding it. I went in grabbed a cart and a salespaper and bought everything out of it, which took me a total of an hour or so, and made my way to the register with a full cart. The cashier rang everything up and my total came out to $876.09, I gave her $900 waited for my change and my receipt, and headed out with my full cart. Owen was parked right outside, and helped me put my bags in the trunk.

“What time is it?”

“A quarter to four.”

“You can take me home now, I’m tired.” I said with a smile.

As he drove, it dawned on me that I hadn’t eaten since earlier, and I hadn’t been able to finish my sandwich. I asked him to stop at KFC where I went in and bought enough boneless chicken, mashed potatoes, corn on the cob, and bisquits to feed a family of twelve. I then had him stop at the store where I bought two 2 liters cherry Pepsi.

When we pulled up in front of the house, I ran up the stairs and rang the doorbell, and ran back to the car to help Owen with the bags. As I made my way back to the door, Lewis opened it.

“Hey baby.” He said.
“Hi.” I said, kissing him on the mouth. “I bought dinner, can you help Owen with the bags?”

“Owen? Whose Owen?” he asked, just as he came on the porch.

I introduced them and walked into the kitchen with the bags of food, passing my mom on the way.

“Hey where you been?” she asked, walking behind me.

“Taking care of business, are you hungry?”

“Yeah, you bought chicken, thank you Jesus. Where’d you get money from?”

“A friend, there’s pop in the bag.”

I walked into the living room where all of the bags were sitting by the stairs.

“What’d you do, rob a bank?” Lewis asked. I turned to see if we were alone.

“Nope, can you help me take these upstairs, and I
