In the future, there stands a man and beast with more in common than they will ever know
"I will burn it till it is nothing but a glassed surface", the coarse, gravel-like voice of the Rebirths chief echoed down the viewing quarters. The walls were metalically grey, the floor shiny like diamond and the large glass wall was frosted from the outside, as the chief peered down at earth as though it was a mere portrait. He cared not of the lives which he spent, and less of even the more he took. His red pearled eyes gleamed with satisfaction as his blue armor reflected the massive explosions and shots of light that seemed never ending on earth.
He lay there....the helpless human, beaten to the core, yet, refusing to die, had to listen to the chief idolize his army and race. His armor was torn, his helmet glass shattered and his weapons broken. But he still managed to store a slide down knife up his armors sleeve....he couldn`t even raise his hand, yet only thrust that knife.
"Please, if you stop the attack....",he mustered to whisper,
"IF!!!!!",spattered the Rebirth, 'you humans structure your whole existance around that word.....if....IF you had seen our signs earlier...", the chief, furious, marched towards the half dead space marine...."IF we had only made peace....." ,he snatched the marine off the reflecting floor and held him up into the air, "IF we hadn`t wasted time in our own petty wars, then mabey, mabey, we could have stood a chance....no? Is that not what you were thinking human? Is that not your nature? What do you say now? What if?", he whispered......
The knife slid down his forearm....his hand grabbing it a split second before he missed it completely, and he opened his mouth....
"What if you never held me up?"
He mustered and heaved, aimed and striked....he felt his feet dangling off the floor, and then fell victim to forceful throw towards the viewing glass....he heard it crack behind his head, and small shards of glass fell behind him....
The chief shrugged and screamed, as he bled profusely under his armor. The blade in his neck refused to unhook and it wasn`t long before he hit the diamond floor with a thud, the tiles now glistening with his alien blood streaming through its creases....the marine smiled half heartedly....and sighed..."what if?".
With little debate, he crawled to his feet, gradually but surely, as he made way for the controls on the chiefs armored forearm. As he skipped towards the dead being, the shattering of glass became louder behind him, but he could care even less as he spotted the cease button on his hand. The marine struggled it onto his lap as he sat down beside him and began to remember his little boy and beautiful wife....their happiness and wholesome lives together...and finally, their deaths....
His fingers squibbled for the button, when suddenly....there was a flash of thick, dense light from outside the glass plane....the earth had exploded....and it dawned on the marine, when he killed the chief, so to was his unknown trigger of self destruction activated....and in a split second...everything he fought for was gone.
A tear escaped his eyelids.....
The vaccum of the explosion was so great, that a black hole was developing....and then he remembered, he remembered the stories of it leading to a parallel universe, or how it made you alien.....or how it transported you back into time....all theories, all unsure...all pointing to his only choice.
The breaking glass continued cracking as the marine hoisted the next arm of the dead beast and fired a laser from his armor....the glass broke, the room sucked outside, and so was the last human in his galaxy, still clinging to the chief`s body....as he darted towards the vortex, he prayed for it to work, and then he spotted a tattoo on the aliens arm, a patch of skin that the armor did not cover....it read the numbers 2142....the same year they found the first rebirth, the year of evoloution of the humans....and in seconds, everything went black and all that could be heard was his own heart beat....which started to beat faster and faster, until it was rapid enough to be a ships pumping system.............

Sam Jagged opened his eyes. Everything was bright,....blinding. He sat up, and scoped the room he was now conscious in. He viewed a pale, bland cell, white walls, white floors, white ceilings...white sheets on a white bed, and him, wearing a white gown....all was so white, that it blurred his sight, as he peered around and slowly spotted a calender....the year was 2142, and he breathed a sigh of disbelief.
"Hello subject 2....we will be doing some tests on you soon....lucky we found you close to our shores...a little more and you would have drowned in the sea...", he smiled.
"Where am I?", Sam replied...his voice suddenly coarse and dry...he recognized a tattoo on his arm, but he couldn`t make it out...so he peered back up and shouted as though he just remembered," THEY ARE COMING!!!"
"Who are coming?", the stranger requested.....
"The aliens!!!", he cried.....
"Wait...wait.....wait.......there are more of you?" he questioned with interest....
"What?".....
"Well....its not really where you are, it`s what you are...you are not human my friend, you may look so, but no.....you are pure alien...an unknown species....a human upgrade....", the white coated stranger smiled, as Sam now peered back at his tattoo.....it read 2142...."you will be a help to us all my unearthly friend....a...what to call it...um.....a Rebirth to human kind everywhere....",
He extracted a needle from a bag which he held around his waist.... Sam could feel himself growing out of control already, he felt his organs beating to a rapid rythum....his muscles expanding.....his eyes bleeding....
"Just imagine....what if we left you there?", the exited, sadistic looking human said with ease.....
Sam watched him and swallowed hard....."yeah....what if....".
