Capt.Dan X. Mancuso While in Command of the USS Columbia Remembers his past.
Captain’s Log Stardate 60011.20

We are presently on routine inspection of the border outpost along the neutral Zone.  Not presently on the front lines of the war with the Dominion but who knows what the Romulans can come up if they are given the chance…

This is a new ship… The USS Columbia Registry number NCC-99513 of the New Sovereign Class is a fine ship; we are top of the line and up to date in Starfleet Technology.  We just finished a year long shakedown cruise with a mix of experienced officers and green ensigns, since the Federation is at war we don’t have civilians aboard, which is one less worry on my mind.  After the inspection we are to report to star base 375 for active duty deployment to the front lines.

War is never good but we need to keep the Federation Safe.  Some of the Officer are veterans of the First Cardassian War, So they know what to expect from them, Now The Dominion is another story, fighting a race of genetically engineered warriors is something we have never encountered before so this is going to be an experience we are going to have to learn as we go.

Daniel is interrupted by the Tactical Officer Lt. John Harras…

Captain, I have an anomalous reading on my long range sensors… there is something on the other side of the Zone that is shadowing us…

The Lanky Texan had been with Daniel for the past 5 years on his other posting… Daniel had learned to trust his instincts…

Can you be more specific? Is it a ship?

Resolute in his knowledge but sufficiently irked by the strange reading the Tactical officer retorted…

If it is sir I have never seen this type of warp signature… Wait... it just entered the Neutral zone and heading on an intercept course with us…

Daniel sighs knowing this is going to be messy…

That’s all the urging I need, RED Alert! All Hands to Battle Stations! This is not a drill repeat this is not a drill.

Daniel tapped the end button on his command chair ending the log recording in mid entry he wondered when he would get back to finish it or most likely adding to it with an after action report…
