The invious neighbors who lived in my little town

Town Of Envy

I was raised in a small town of six hundred citizens or so
One corner of main lived Smith the other one lived Jones
The Lord has declared in the Bible that envy is a sin
It is a part of jealousy that can destroy you from within

Every time that Jones bought himself a pretty new car
A day or so later Smith bought himself one better by far
The rest of the neighbors in the town would gossip to say
I wonder how much money Smith and Jones had to pay

Smith or Jones never attended their little towns church
Still they were the conversation at church on Sunday
They would discuss if Smith was keeping up with Jones
Smith was younger and more ugly than Mister Jones
Jones was tall with a stature of little more than bones

No wonder their new town church burned to the ground
They should have filled it with love of their fellow man
Instead of the gossip that they spread all over town
Then the Lord would have protected it with his hand

Sometime ago I went back to that little country town
I did not believe how many houses had burned down
That family who always got the blame for everything
Was blamed for this how else could it be explained

After Thoughts

They rebuilt their new church on the same corner lot where the old church had stood before. The elementary school still stands on the hill. There I attended school for six years. The old town market has long since fell down. A newer market and bar are just down the road. The town even had a modern bridge name after it. It spans the mighty river and leads to the next county.

From this little story a lesson can be learned. You do not throw stones if you live in a glass house. For sometimes you may receive back those same stone in return. I wonder who in their eyes took my place after I moved away. They had to pick someone to compete with the Jones everyday.
Yours,
C.R. Smith.
